Back payment of PIP was created by percey
Hello,

I've recently been awarded PIP, which is great but I have a query about the backpayment which will take me over the threshold of allowable savings as I receive ESA. Any advice here?
With thanks,
Percey

Hello percey,

Well done on receiving your award. You probably do not need to worry. You certainly have a year to bring your savings down to the threshold level. In some cases this year is extended to the length of the award.

Hope this helps, please do come up back us if you need further information.

Catherine

Hello Catherine,

Thanks for your helpful reply and all the work that the team do on the site which has really helped me to make an application. I think I would have given up otherwise.

Hello again,
Through the dark maze does sum up the process quite well!

I have a further question which you may be able to help with. The PIP award is for 4 years which is good to know. However, I've not had an ESA review for many years and have no idea when that could happen. I'm wondering whether the 2 benefits will be linked together now and that they won't contact me for a work assessment for the next 4 years? I just don't know how what to expect with ESA as they've never provided a time scale and contacting them to ask feels really scary. I'm in the support group for ESA.
Many thanks.
Percey.

Hello percey,

Prior to the Covid outbreak there were discussions happening about linking the assessments of the two awards. As far as I know nothing was decided, and the whole thing seems to have fallen silent in the last year. I personally hate the idea, although I can see the logic and fear that it will eventually happen.

So, as things stand, your two benefits are not linked, but there is a possibility that within four years they just might be.

Your ESA is an ongoing award, which means, subject to you not reaching State Pension age, it will not stop. Except they review it every so often, at almost seemingly random frequencies, and if you 'fail' that review then your ongoing award is no longer ongoing and potentially stops. My head refuses to fully wrap itself around that one, but it is the scenario you are in, why you don't have a time scale, and why you don't need to contact them. As the saying goes 'never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you'. I think that applies in this case!

Hope that makes sense
Catherine
