PIP Mental Health Assessment was created by Imuyatwa
Good afternoon,
I was awarded the standard living and mobility component in 2017.
I have come to understand that the DWP have started reviewing awards that didn't have any scores awarded for mental health? I have depression and anxiety and have been on medication from 2009.
Do I wait for them to contact me or how do I get them to look at my award again? It is due to review this August 2021.
Many thanks,
Ino.

Hello Ino and welcome to the forum.
I have not heard that the DWP are particularly targeting awards which don't have a mental health component, but it is possible that it has just not reached my ears. I am sure our wider community will help out here.
PIP awards are reviewed every so often, and you say that yours is due later this year. You might well receive a letter in the next few months. If it gets close to the end date and you have not heard from the DWP, then you should give them a ring.
If you think your difficulties with Daily Living and/or Mobility have got significantly worse since you applied for your current award you could ring the DWP and notify them of a Change of Circumstances and request a review. They will then almost certainly send you a PIP2 form. This could lead to an increased award, or of course there is the risk that it could lead to a reduced one.
Have a look at our guides and see what you think. PIP resources
I suspect I am hearing your anxiety talking here, in which case I suggest that you wait for your routine review to roll round. If you believe that your problems with Daily Living and/or Mobility have got worse and your current award is definitely too low, then go for the Change of Circumstances route.
Hope this helps,
Catherine

Hello Ino,
I wonder if are referring to the Planning and Following a journey descriptor and how your mental health and overwhelming psychological distress affects your ability to carry this out successfully.
The DWP should have sent a letter once they have reviewed your claim informing you if they have increased your points/award. Mine came late 2019 but I have seen other members have been contacted more recently.
Sorry if this is not what you meant but just a thought.
Gaddy.

Thanks so much for your response. What I was asking is that my mental health descriptors were not taken into account at my initial assessment and I understand that the DWP after losing a legal challenge last year have been directed to re-evaluate claims to take into account mental health capacity.

Thanks, they have not gotten back to me.
They are very arbitrary I must say.
