What to do was created by Gregorysgirl
Hi
My ESA review is due at the end of the year. I’ve had two deferrals and I also have PIP enhanced both rates ongoing award. My mental health has got worse over the last two years and I know I will be unable to deal with DWP. I have seen on the forum that in the case of severe mental illness, you may not have to complete the form or have a medical. If they try to make me do this, I’ll know they want to persecute me and I’ll have to withdraw my claim.
What will I do?
Thank you

Hi Gregorysgirl

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work .

ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment based on the Prognosis Date completed by the assessor in their report, so your existing ESA award continues in payment until a new Decision is made.

Do you have a CPN or a psychiatrist who can write you a supporting document?

You are free to request a paper-based assessment, but they are unlikely to grant one without a doctor's letter confirming that it would cause you 'overwhelming psychological distress' to have a telephone assessment. Be warned even then the DWP and/or the assessment services sometimes ignore such requests.
