Is it ok to ring the DWP for an update on claim?

I have autism and severe mental health conditions and I am getting a lack of sleep due to my PIP review. Is it ok to ring the DWP each week for an update on my review, or can they block you from ringing them?

I have never heard of anyone being blocked by the DWP, so you are probably safe on that one. I assume that you have checked that they have received your review. If so, you will not speed up the process by ringing them multiple times, but I understand your position.
If they say anything regarding your repeated calls you can explain to them that the anxiety is one of the uncontrollable effects of your condition.
If possible I would try to avoid calling them more than once a week.

Hi Catherine, thank you for your reply. Yes, it's only because their decision letters normally take around two weeks or so to be received by myself, which is an additional two weeks of worrying when a decision has been made.
They have received the form.
Can I ask, is it normal for other people to have sent their review forms in after me and to already have had a reply from the DWP?

Sorry Catherine, they received my form on the 20th January 2021.
When I rung today, the advisor on the end of the telephone was very friendly and said feel free to ring in each week as he said he would worry too.
Also, he said it's normal for when a form is received to be sent off to the assessment provider within a day or two, that's not happened in my case and therefore he thinks, (but can't promise), the case manager will be going down a different route. Is that true about forms being sent off to the assessment provider within a few days?

Well that has answered your question about ringing once a week! I am pleased for you.
I have heard of them sending the forms off to an assessment provider, and of doing it themselves, but in my experience it seems to be more of the former. I don’t know how they decide which to do in any individual case, so really can’t advise about it further.
I only know of one recent example where of person who has had a response back within four weeks, and that was a very straight forward claim backed by amazing evidence. I would expect most to take between 6 and 8 weeks at the moment. Let’s hope yours is one of the quicker ones,
