Hello all
I have just gone on sick leave from work and receiving ssp. In 2020 I did the same but went back to work after 3 months because I just couldn't live on ssp.
My manager is great and backs me all the way. I am going to ask her to write a letter helping with my claim for pip but not sure what she could actually say. She's seen me struggling over the years with rheumatoid, osteoarthritis arthritis and anxiety.
Does anyone have a sample letter, or just some advice as to how she could word the letter..
Thank you

Hello CD0912,
How fortunate you are!
Yes, I would think a letter of support from your employer would carry weight, but you need to think about what the issues are which you have with daily living and/or mobility which she will have seen demonstrated in the workplace.
How I would recommend tackling this is to go through the activities considered on the PIP form (do use our guides to help you), think about the issues you have with each, and try to think when you have similar difficulties at work.
For example you may find it difficult to dress yourself, you employer might have noticed you needing help putting on specialised workwear. In the same way she may have observed that your anxiety does not let you socialise with people you don’t know unless she is there to support you.
To the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as a sample letter, since everyone is so different.
Hope that helps a little,
Catherine

Thank you for that Catherine.. My manager probably just wants rid of me so she can get someone else in to do my job better haha.
P. S Do the pip forms have to be in writing or can we type the answers in?

Hi CD0912,
The form you receive through the post can only be completed by hand, and as yet there is not a version online which you can complete. However, if you have problems with writing you can type up your answers in a document and include it with your form. What I very often do is complete the short bits on the form - name, address etc and of course the tick boxes. In the large boxes, I hand write 'see separate sheet(s)'.
You need to make sure that the answers on the separate sheets are clearly headed and each page has your name and NI number at the top. We also recommend that each page is numbered page X of Y, so that there is less risk of one being lost.
Hope this helps,
Catherine

Hi CD, I would strongly advise looking at the guides first before picking up a pen or typing anything out. Take your time with each question and really think about how you manage with personal care and your mobility. Taking time in the first instance with a PIP form will pay off at a later date. It will help to draw a picture of how you are managing ... good luck
