Many of you will be aware that Severe Disability Premium or SDP is not paid for UC claims. However, instead a transitional protection can be paid for those claimants who were previously paid this under pre-UC benefits. (Called legacy benefits.) The transitional protection ensured no one should lose out when transferring to UC. I thought I would explain this correctly. It is possible that DWP might give you the same explanation as given to a friend about her son who now claims UC. Question: what is 'transitional protection'? Work coach answer ' Oh this is like a thank you for transferring to UC'.
Once you have stopped laughing out loud or howling with despair, please remember that DWP never offer thank you presents!
If anyone isn't sure about something said by DWP, please ask us or check the members guides.
I hope this helps!
