Hi my 17yr old son is caring for me, we seem to meet all of the criteria for carers allowance. We applied in December. Last Wednesday he received a text saying dwp have made their decision and he would get a letter within 10 days. Is this usually good or bad? No money has gone into account. Thank you

Hi Ghedgy49

I can't tell you whether this is good or bad, because it's simply telling you the decision will be with you in the next 10 days. It doesn't give any indication of the result and never does. I hope you receive a positive response.

Hi Ghedgy49

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work .

You do not say if you son is at school, college or working.

To claim CA, all of the following must apply:

* you’re 16 or over
* you spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone
* you’ve been in England, Scotland or Wales for at least 2 of the last 3 years (this does not apply if you’re a refugee or have humanitarian protection status)
* you normally live in England, Scotland or Wales, or you live abroad as a member of the armed forces (you might still be eligible if you’re moving to or already living in an EEA country or Switzerland)
* you’re not in full-time education
* you’re not studying for 21 hours a week or more
* you’re not subject to immigration control
* your earnings are £128 or less a week after tax, National Insurance and expenses
