Video assessment for PIP was created by HMart1n
I have just had confirmation that I will have a video assessment for my PIP application next week. I have read the advice on preparing for the telephone assessment in the PIP Guide and this is very useful, I was just wondering if anyone has had a video assessment and can offer any other additional advice on this.

Hi Helen
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
I have not seen any posts on this forum where members have had a video assessment, so I am not able to assist you but members on this forum may have on other forums or personal experience. I believe video assessments are new, you may want to ask during the video assessment if you can have a copy of the recording of the assessment.

Helen, I too am currently claiming PIP but have not yet been offered an appointment.
I am not very good with online video as I find the need to look at the camera distracts me from gathering my thoughts. I would prefer a telephone assessment. I would be worried if I was forced to have a video interview.
As I understand it, there is new legislation this month allowing PIP interviews to be held "in person, by telephone or by video" but were you offered the choose of which method suited you best?
For completeness, here is the link to legislation which doesn't mention claimant choice = www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/230/made

Hi Gary, thanks for your response and for pointing out about name.
I have to apologise. I know the new legislation was only coming out this month from the valuable information on this site. I got my letter and the way i read it I thought it said I was having a video assessment. Part of the problem I have is cognitive problems and I showed the letter to a family member who has confirmed that it is a telephone assessment I was looking at information in relation to video support for people that need assistance.
Apologies again and I will share my experience.

Dear Finni thank you for responding. I realise the legislation about video assessments is only out.
I have to apologise. I have some cognitive problems and showed a family member my letter who has confirmed that my assessment is a telephone assessment not a video assessment. I do wonder will people be given a choice when video assessments eventually come into place. I think this will add to the anxiety already felt by people going through this process.

Hi Helen
I have not read anywhere if you are given a choice, one of the problems the assessor will have is that not everyone owns a smart phone or a computer with a camera and therefore you will not be able to use software such as WhatsApp, Teams, Goto and numerous other systems.
They may change the application form slightly asking what type of phone you use or if you would like video assessment, but at present I am only guessing, although we have received news of a new PIP form which we are looking into but we have no further information yet about the new form.
