Telephone assessment on Wednesday was created by Carol
Hi Everyone, just had the text to say I have a telephone assessment in eight days time after I informed them my conditions have worsened. I've been getting the enhanced rate on both and provided medical evidence as I'm awaiting yet more surgery to replace my j.jeg feed tube, the wound there is constantly infected and nerve damaged occurred so I'm in constant pain, it affected my mobility badly as does the fibromyalgia. I've had several bouts of pneumonia resulting in scarring on my right lung so I get short of breath very quickly, I now live in a sheltered housing bungalow because I can't manage stairs and my children and grandchildren live close by and help me daily with my personal care and housework. I worked all my life until I had a complete bowel obstruction, surgery saved my life but caused many bowel and adhesions problems, I have had stomach ulcers that have been removed three times due to bleeding , most of my inner stomach had to be removed so I can never return to work. I'm 60 in June and had a hone assessment last time. My confidence has gone due to anxiety and feeling low but I'm so scared about this assessment, my Daughter will be with me. My motability car is my lifeline, im not sleeping as I'm afraid I will lose it as once I'm in it I can drive locally , put the windows down and feel the fresh air. How do you all deal with the pre assessment worries and fears? Thankyou .

Hello Carol,

I am hoping that our members will be able to give you tips as to how they personally deal with the stress.

I would say make use of the time to re-read our guides, particularly the descriptors for each activity.
PIP resources
Know what you are trying to demonstrate to the assessor.

Also remember the reliability criteria –
• Safely – in a fashion that is unlikely to cause harm to themselves or to another person.
• To a necessary and appropriate standard – given the nature of the activity.
• Repeatedly – as often as is reasonably required.
• In a timely manner – in a reasonable time period.
if you can do something but cannot do it reliably then you need to let the assessor know this.

If you have decided to record the assessment, which we recommend, have a dry run with this to make sure the technology works.

You are wise in having your daughter with you, but do make sure that you let the assessor know that she is there, and what support she is giving you. If you need to take a break during the assessment for any reason then say so.

I can fully understand why you are anxious and I hope that it goes really well for you, and you soon get the reassurance you need.

I was already so nervous getting ready for Wednesday phone assessment then had a text yesterday saying I have a assessment on Thursday, no explanation so I had to ring IAS who said yes sorry my assessment has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday due to the health professional not being available on the initial date!!! If I hadn't have rang, and I'm not good on the phone, then o wouldn't know which appointment to attend and why it was changed.

Carol, use the experience to show yourself what you are capable of! Well done for getting to the bottom of it.
