PIP Reviews for Existing Claimants was created by Augustus
Good Morning

I received your latest email update, and the PIP news reminded me of the underlying tanxiety I have concerning my own claim.

You see, I was re-awarded PIP in December 2016, which was upgraded to what it was before that review, when I requested a Mandatory Recon. I believe I was given an ongoing period of validity.

I am concerned that I could get a form asking me to re-apply at any time. I cannot bring myself to ring and ask when a review is due.

But my question is about the so-called “light touch” reviews for existing PIP claimants that was introduced quite a while back. I don’t know how this works. Whether any abbreviated form is a kind of trap, so that assuming you are applying from scratch is the best strategy, using your guides of course.

Can you clarify please how this light touch process is working out? Do your comments in your email today extend to ALL PIP claims and reviews?

Thanks

Hello Augustus,

I can appreciate your heightened anxiety; it did not make comforting reading. However I think we should read the stats as merely as telling us that each claim / review needs to be carefully submitted together with a willingness to fight for the right award.

However, a little reassurance for you. An ongoing award will be reviewed after 10 years, so you have a while to go yet. The light touch awards have yet to go live so we don’t know how they will look, but I have not heard anyone suggest that it is a trap. The first of the light touch reviews is due to take place in 2023, so we should know a lot about it before your award comes up for review.

Please do you best to forget about this until much closer to the dreaded time,
Catherine
