ESA work questionnaire ate extension

My experience of late submissions for Capability for Work questionnaire’s is exactly what you have described – they do not give a formal extension, but provided you give a good reason they accept a late submission.

Clearly you now need to send in the form as soon as possible, and fill in the section about why it is late. If you have any evidence of your reason you can include that, although I have never done so, and it has not been a problem.

It is highly unlikely that the person you spoke to had the authority to say what is and is not an acceptable reason for a late submission, hence his seemingly unhelpful reply.

If you are worried you could send a letter to the DWP explaining the situation, but I am not sure that it would make any difference.

If the only reason your submission is late is because you are waiting for evidence, you could send it in now with a letter explaining that you have requested supporting letters, they are yet to come so you will send them in as soon as you can.

The ESA legislation does not allow any extension of the time allowed to return the ESA50, the DWP can decide to accept a late return but there are no circumstances where they can change the return date that you have already received.
