Can someone offer some advice about, moving to a different area and getting HB? I'm currently in receipt of HB, irESA, SDP and PIP. I'm moving into sheltered accommodation and will be using the service of the scheme. I've been saving up to move home, many miles away, but have recently had an accident and I'm too ill to move as planned. I've signed for my new tenancy, which will start this week and I've already paid one month rent in advance. I'm told by the local council, I will need to to pay the rent myself until, I'm actually well enough to move into the property. I would be grateful for any advice or guidance you're able to offer. Thanks in advance.
HB is not an area covered on the forum, when you say that you are moving into sheltered accommodation, you need to check with the local authority if you have to claim HB or UC.
If you’re in supported, sheltered or temporary housing;
You cannot get Universal Credit to help with housing costs if any of the following apply: you’re living in supported or sheltered housing (such as a hostel) which provides you with ‘care, support or supervision’
Therefore you will stay on legacy benefits for the time being, if the above does not apply then you will have to apply for UC.
