Does anyone know how long it takes for Income Related ESA to be added onto an existing Contribution based ESA claim. My brother has needed to fill in an IR ESA form they sent him out but he wasn’t sure how long it would take.
Thank you for any ideas

It would depend whether or not your brother was entitled to any additional premiums, also Covid has had a knock effect, it used to be with a few weeks. I cannot say how long it would take now, once DWP receive the completed form back.
When you send the form back make sure you send it by recorded delivery.

Thank you Gary.
Yes he sent it recorded delivery and it has been signed for. He is entitled to SDP so not sure if that means it would take longer or if it’s straightforward or if they would reassess his whole ESA claim although I don’t see why they would as he was awarded it until 2025 and his health has not got better and won’t get any better.
Thanks again Gary.

I would phone the DWP and ask, at least DWP have received the form, it might not have been uploaded on their system.
You may want to ask as to the date it will be backdated to, it should be backdated to when he qualified for SDP, I have have done a few which were backdated over a number of years which was a bonus to the claimants.
They should assess the claim from when your brother qualified for SDP.
