Can anyone advise please was created by k9feline
Hello all, I’m not sure if anybody can help but I thought I’d try here first - rather than spending hours trying to get through to job centre/DWP - I don’t even know who I would have to ask.

I am in the support group for ESA & am in local authority housing, whereby my full rent of £96 per week is paid.

I want/need to move out of London & I know there isn’t a hope in hell of me getting another social housing property. So my only option would be to rent privately, however I need to know the maximum amount of housing benefit I would be able to claim. I seem to recall that the government introduced a maximum amount of benefits (all inclusive of housing & council tax) a person could be paid, but don’t know what that amount is or whether it still applies.

If anyone can give me a rough idea, it would at least help me to know what my rental options are.

Many thanks

Hi K9feline

Housing benefit is outside the scope of this forum. If you look at the information on the government website www.gov.uk/housing-benefit/what-youll-get - it says

"You may get help with all or part of your rent. There’s no set amount of Housing Benefit and what you get will depend on whether you rent privately or from a council." .....

"If you rent privately, your eligible rent amount is either your Local Housing Allowance (LHA) rate or your actual rent, whichever is lower. The LHA rate is based on:
where you live and your household size "

Hope you can find the information you need at the link above.

Morning. If you are in ‘social housing’ either council or housing association, you can move anywhere in the country to another ‘social housing’ provider. You generally need a reason for the move, ie. taking up a new job/ education or training opportunity/ family or friends nearby to give you support..etc. I have ‘moved’ twice doing this...
1. From city A to city B (education & work) took 6 months.
2. From city B to city A (MH & practical support) took 12 months.
*Do some research. Do not give up your home*
Social Housing is a gold standard currency nowadays.
{There is also a ‘swap’ service so you can swop homes with someone}
Do some google-ing...
Short term pain..long term gain...

Hello k9feline

If you give the local authority of the area you are hoping to move to they will be able to give you the figures you need.
