Money left in a will was created by Tenja
My daughter's father-in-law has died suddenly and there has been some money left I think after everything is paid it will mean that they will receive in the region of £20k - She is on PIP and he is her carer and receives carers allowance,
They have UC and she is undergoing the UC50 assessment [awaiting examination]. As we are not sure of what the amount will be do I inform UC now or when they receive the money.

Hello JP, sorry for the loss.
May I advise that once they receive the money, and duly advise DWP and have their benefits trimmed accordingly, they MUST keep receipts for everything they spend until they get back under first the [if I have this right, I am not a mod] £16,000 and eventually the £6,000. Otherwise DWP are likely to disbelieve that the money has been spent or argue it was 'intentional deprivation'. I believe the tariff notional income is something totally crazy like they say you are getting £1 a week interest for every £250 or part thereof [even 1p]. Been there, it was horrible. So trying to save them the same misery. Maybe buy an exercise book and a glue-stick as a way of filing the receipts?

Worth checking with the solicitor about a "Deed of Variation". He/she will tell you what it involves.
