ESA Decision time was created by VictoriaR
Hi, does anyone know how long it's taking to get a decision for a new ESA claim? I sent in the form at the end of November but have yet to hear anything. I'm making a contribution claim so if put in the WRAG group can only claim for 12 months. I would like to get the interview over with if I need one, I find the waiting stressful.

Hi VictoriaR
Prior to Covid it used to take 6 - 8 weeks to hear, at present it does vary from a few weeks to many months so cannot give you a precise answer.
I would contact DWP to see what is happening and if they have received your claims form, did you send your form and supporting documents by recorded delivery?

Thanks for the reply. I did send it recorded delivery. I will phone them for an update. I've had several problems with them losing my fit note and a lady from DWP phoning who thought I was someone else, which is not very reassuring. I was previously claiming carers allowance as I have a disabled son but now have my own health problems. I recently got him PIP for 4 years after transferring from DLA. That took 7 months but I was hoping ESA would be quicker.

Hi VictoriaR
I would check on the Royal Mail website and note when it was signed for, date and time before phoning the DWP.
The best time to contact DWP is first thing in the morning (8.00 am) when they open.
