Change of circumstances backpay was created by Sunshine99
Hi guys

I’ve had a payment go in the bank from pip. It’s what they owe from mid of January till 31 March. Thing is I put my change of circumstances in on 6th October... I thought it would be back dated till then ? Can you clarify for me please I am still awaiting on DWP calling back but would like to be clear before they do lol
Thanks

Hi Sunshine99

I would have expected them to pay from the time you informed them - but I don't have anywhere that is written down to be able to say that is categorically the case.

Hi Bis
They called and for information for future “ backpay is backdated until 12 weeks after the change of circumstances date as the condition has to have deteriorated for 12 weeks before any pay”. I said to the lady yes I called in October I expect backdated till October and not January. DWP have ASSUMED that I called on the first day of deterioration which I didn’t, I have evidence of lots of gp visits with a decline in the June. No one from DWP asked when it started. They are calling me back Monday to tell me if I can have the rest backdated.

Hello Sunshine,

What the DWP have told you has a logic, albeit a rather narrow one. It is helpful to know what when informing them of a change of circumstances people should include a date of when the changes occured.

Thank you and I hope you have good news on Monday
