Pension Credit claim waiting time was created by juststu
Hi there,
I'm interested to know how long it takes for a pension credit claim to be assessed/decided/awarded?
I applied at the beginning of April, and they said will let me know by May 4th.
With the weekend coming and the bank holiday, it's getting very close and I've heard nothing.
My State Pension starts on the 30th April.
What is the average waiting time, and how long have others waited?

Hi irnbru77

If you phone DWP and apply PC they will tell you straight away if you are eligible to claim, what usually happens when you phone up for PC is the first department you phone checks that you are eligible, then puts you through to someone who will then make the application over the phone.

They do give you the option to apply over the phone or will send out an application form which is quite straight forward to complete.

What can hold up an application is if a claimant has an occupational pension, I did a claim for a claimant a little while ago which got delayed as the claimant had a savings account they had taken out many years ago with Britannia and had forgotten all about it, it turned out to be just over £4k which the claimant used for a holiday, Pension Credit application was successful.

PC will not be awarded until you reach pension credit age. www.gov.uk/pension-credit

Thanks Gary.

I did that at the beginning of the month. I phoned the Pension Credit people and he asked me all the questions that were required to apply. Then he said he couldn't process it today because it was after 3:30. He advised me to either, call back the next day or fill in the online form. I filled in the online form and sent it. I received an email confirmation that they had received it.

The email stated that I would receive a reply before May 4th. I've not heard anything yet. and It's getting close to the day now.

I am claiming ESA at the moment which runs out on Friday, and I will be on state pension as of this Friday. I don't have an occupational pension.

Hi irnbru77

I would give the pension credit helpline a call: 0800 731 0469 and inform them that you have received a confirmation email that they have received your online application, you are enquiring if they need any additional information to complete your claim.
