ESA/UC Help was created by Manic_Minotaur
Hello all, I’m wondering if somebody will be able to answer a question for me.
I’m currently claiming New Style ESA, and Universal credit, I have been claiming new style ESA for around 5 months now, although 2 months in practise the first 3 months were backdated.
Around a month ago I received a WCA for UC and filled in the forms and sent them back around a week ago, I received a letter in my journal today saying I’ve been put into the LCWRA group - which was incredibly fast I couldn’t believe how quickly it was done and with no interview.
My question is what happens now to my ESA, given that I’ve been awarded LCWRA for universal credit? I haven’t filled in any forms for ESA only done the UC50 form, do they follow the UC decision or would I be expected to complete the ESA equivalent, or is it even worth claiming ESA anymore.
Many thanks in advance

Hi Manic_Minotaur
I look upon New Style ESA as contribution based UC as it can be confusing and people do mix it up with legacy ESA.
You have been placed in the LCWRA group, under legacy benefits this would have been called the support group.
The UC50 form that you completed was for New Style ESA, legacy ESA no longer exists for new claimants you now have to either claim NS ESA and or UC, which is what you have done .
Now that you have been placed in the LCWRA group you will receive an additional premium in with your UC payment each month (£343.63 pcm).
Congratulations on being awarded LCWRA.
