Telephone assessment for PIP review was created by carole
Hello
I have a review telephone assessment next Wednesday which is causing so much anxiety, i had PIP for 4 years changing over from DLA i received standard rate for both.
My psychical health has got much worse, mental health remains the same. As i drive sometimes and have 2 cats i am really concerned this will go against me despite being worse.
I understand you cant offer much in the way of how this will go but if my health problems are worse are the chances of me retaining my PIP more hopeful.
Many thanks for all you do to help with this awful process
Carole

Hello Carole,

I absolutely agree with you, it is an awful process.

If your condition has got worse, it should improve your chances of getting your award renewed, possibly even increased.

If you drive by yourself and you are hoping to be awarded points under planning a journey then you will need to be ready to explain why you fit the descriptor you believe is the correct one for you. If you are hoping to get points under moving around, the second of the mobility descriptors then you just need to be aware that you are likely to be asked how you get to and from the car both at home and at your destination.

I have never come across having cats as a problem with PIP. It is the assumption that if you have a dog you can walk it for miles which is a common issue, but that will not apply to you.

Oh – and I nearly forgot – we do recommend that you record your interview. See pages 90 – 100 of our PIP guide for tips about happens at a face to face medical assessment.

PIP resources

Hope this helps a little and everything goes well on Wednesday. On Friday (48 hours after your assessment) you can ring the PIP helpline and request a copy of the assessor’s report (PA4) which is worth doing, just in case you wish to challenge what they say.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply which was very helpful Catherine
its not the planning journey i think i would get points for its the limitation of my mobility that has worsen over the past couple of years. I last got 4 points for mental health and 4 for the mobility part, its the mobility bit thats got worse. I have around 8ft from my door to the car and i have blue badge.
Also have concerns around my licence, i do only short journeys and i do not drive if i have taken painkillers so i will explain all that.

Hi Carol, if you have a laptop or computer there is a voice recording option on it from the start menu. I used an separate microphone I borrowed from my son to plug into it and had my phone on loud speaker and it has picked up the conversation. I have just tried it out with my internal mike and it also pick up me talk. I hope this helps

wanted to update. Have received letter today, received enhanced on daily living and standard for mobility.
This is the same as before for mobility lost out because i drive for enhanced rate. Deteriorating physical health gave me the extra 2 points i needed for enhanced rate for daily living. Overall i felt it was fair apart from a couple of comments from the assessor which were not quite reflective of the conversation i would say its fair and I'm so relived means i can get the help i need.
Its for an ongoing period then on another page its for 10 years.
So many grateful thanks to this site invaluable help and advice.
