PIP review new condition was created by Lorraine
Hi I received my pip review form on Monday although I received a letter saying they had renewed it until 2022 hey ho. As it turns out I had an appointment with a neurologist
Consultant on Wednesday who after doing many tests during the hour I was with him diagnosed me with FND I wondered if anyone has claimed PIP with this condition , it’s all very confusing however I’ve spent a bit of time getting my head round it. I have had a letter from him outlining exactly how this effects me. I get standard care and mobility. My conditions are Arthritis, ME, Fibromyalgia, prolapsed discs, neuropathy. I just wondered if I might get enhanced mobility as one of the symptoms I have is falling which is common with FND. (Drop attacks)I also have dissociative symptoms feeling spaced out, Functional limb weakness and PPPD persistent postural perceptual Dizziness. Has anyone had to advise DWP of this condition ? Any input from you lovely people would help so much . Thank you.

Hi again Lorraine,

It is impossible to say based purely on a diagnosis what level of awards you might get. As I explained in a previous post, PIP is awarded on how the condition affects you, not on what the condition is.

Although I have not had experience of helping someone submit a claim for FND, I have helped people with different uncommon conditions. If your condition is uncommon it is quite possible that the assessor will not have come across it before and will not have an understanding of the impact it has on you. If you can find an authoritative but not overly lengthy description of the disease and include that with your submission if might just help them out.

(As I wrote that I was thinking about one lady who had a few fairly common conditions which only had moderate impact on her life and one unusual one which ruled all areas of her life. The only ones which the assessor considered in her report were the common ones, and she just made some minor comment that the lady had had surgery for the unusual condition, so it was reasonable to assume it was getting better. As assumption which was wrong and the evidence said to the contrary.)

Hope that helps a little,
Catherine

Thank you Catherine. I didn’t mean to message you twice. I’m new to the forum and thought I hadn’t done it right. Your comments are very helpful. Hopefully the assessor will read all my information. The consultant was very clear how FND is impacting my life. He also confirms my other conditions. It’s all so stressful. I wonder if you can answer another question?
I think I may come under the leap review but am not 100%sure. Let me explain
My first award in 2013 gave me standard rate Daily living 9 points
And enhanced Mobility. I was awarded 8 points for being able to stand and move unaided .ME causes me to get very easily fatigued.
And 4 points for planning and following journeys.
DM words. You stated you panic and become stressed outdoors. Due to the combined effects of your conditions . I agree you require to be prompted to plan and follow journeys most of the time!
Review March 2015
No points for planning and following journey
Reason given at MANDATORY RECONSIDERATION I allegedly told the assessor I drove to the assesement alone therefore the DM decided I can plan and follow the route of a journey unaided. This was 100% lies. My friend drove me to the assesement , the assessor met her in the waiting room.
I appealed but was unsuccessful. Because I managed to get on a bus where my son joined me 2 stops laterI can use public transport so can go out on my own. I have been unable to successfully have my Enhanced mobility re-instated. Even though I still can’t manage on public transport and am only able to drive to places I’m familiar with . Do you think my award should have been looked at again ? Thanks in advanced

Hi Lorraine

We can't tell you whether your case should be looked at during the Leap Review, as we're not assessors and don't know your case. You can wait and see if you are contacted because the review is not yet complete or you can contact them and ask if yours is going to be one of the cases to look at.
