Pip descriptors was created by Lorraine
Morning I’ve just completed my PIP review.
I have a new condition FND which impacts my ability in several ways.. I also have CFS Arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Question 1
preparing food. Previously I was given 2 points as I needed to use aids. Perching stool being one.( fatigue)
I have major balance problems and no longer feel safe using it. I now have microwaveable meals delivered or friends and family will drop meals off. Do you think using your knowledge that this may give me more points.
Question 4
washing and bathing previously given 2 points need aid or appliance, I have a step to help me in and out, hand rail, bath board to sit on and long handle brush. This is still the case however again because of my falling and balance issues. I now only shower if there is someone in the house, not to assist just to be there in case I fall. I’m also hoping to get a community alarm although I haven’t told DWP this. I was hoping to get more points however because this person doesn’t assist me I’m not sure if this in law is reason enough.to increase them.
Question 11
Planning and following a route to another place
I have always had problems with this activity
I need to be persuaded to go out to places I’m unfamiliar with, I will go to the doctor or my local shop However although I did get 4points previously as the anxiety meant I needed prompting from another person to undertake a journey to avoid significant mental distress.however they were taken away in 2015 and not given back at appeal. Now, again due to my new condition, I’m very anxious going out alone especially to busy places. I’m afraid I might fall or have one of my spaced out episodes. So I only go to unfamiliar places if someone comes with me. Again I’m not sure if this will gain me points
I hope you can give me at least your opinion. It’s a minefield and I’m very confused. Thanks in advance

Hello Lorraine,
Question 1. As you are probably aware to be able to do an activity you have to be able to do it safely. I would advise you to include examples of what your safety concerns are. It may seem obvious to you that your balance is poor then ….. however if you don’t spell it out in your submission you cannot assume they will put the pieces together. In particular can you include examples of when you have had problems due to your balance? In what you have written you do not give any indication of whether or not you would be able to prepare a meal if you were supervised. If you look at the descriptors this is obviously significant.
Question 4. What you describe is supervision. But needing supervision also scores 2 points, the same as needing an aid. So I would not expect you to get any extra points on that one.
Question 11. If you can only go to an unfamiliar place if someone goes with you then you match descriptor 10d. But I would advise you to say what help you need from that person, preferably giving examples.
I hope that helps

Hi Catherine great help. Thank you. I’m thinking they will pull me in. I’ve sent neurologist letter with diagnosis which explains what I have. They may want to know from him how it affects me. We’ve not had that conversation yet. He is calling me week after next. I may ask him for a letter explaining how it affected me. I’m sick of them initially I like many had letter to say renewed until 2022 then got review form.

Sorry forgot to say. I told them I need someone to go with me as I I fear falling especially in busy places as it makes my brain do daft things. Consultant confirmed that part in his diagnosis
