ESA savings review was created by Hiijinx
Hello all,
Just had a letter re: my ESA wanting full bank statements from me for the past year as well as receipts for anything over £250.
I am in the support group so know (unless things have changed recently) there is no limit on savings like there is for once related ESA.
Why are they being so nosey? I have nothing to hide so to speak but feel like this is very invasive and feel uncomfortable having someone looking at all my transactions.
Note - nothing illegal, sketchy, wrong - just a few very sensitive transactions that I would rather not advertise to people.
Do I have any right to object? I had already sent them full verified saving statements showing my asset amounts but no transactions for this very reason.
It's feels like I am bring audited!!

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Hiijinx
There are no limits on savings if you are in receipt of Contribution Based (CB)ESA, but if you are in receipt of Income Related (IR) ESA, then there are limits on savings.
DWP will choose accounts at random to verify or they may have been given intelligence.
If you fail to supply relevant information then your claim could be suspended until you do and ultimately stopped altogether.

Hi Hijinx,
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand it to be that once your savings go over 6K, you have to let the DWP know and provide a statement showing all the transactions for a full month.
Hope this helps,
Phrank.

Hi phrank
It depends on the type of ESA you are in receipt of which is why advisers ask, are you in receipt of IR ESA or CB ESA (legacy benefits)?.

Thats just it - I am on Contribution based ESA, always have been ever since it changed from Incapactity benefit. I have no desire to switch to Income-related as I know I have never been eligible.
All my letters state I am entitled to the contribution based type so am clueless as to why they are so interested suddenly.
I will try phoning them again tomorrow and hope I can get through to someone who knows what is going on but a whole year of full bank statements and receipts? That feels so invasive to me.
