Call from "DWP" was created by Barbarag
Hi,
I'm unsure whether I have posted this in the right place, but I am seeking assurance.
I was called today from the DWP on 0800 048 5302. The caller stated he was confirming my State Pension Award as I qualified this month and asked to provide my sate of birth to confirm.
He gave me my weekly figure and said he would send a letter to acknowledge.
My husband told me he thought that rather odd that I would be contacted by phone unannounced since I had already completed everything online and wondered why I should be contacted by telephone in any event. I am now rather concerned that this all wasn't genuine as the more I think about it, the stranger it seems.
Does this seem like standard practice that the DWP would call to discuss State Pension or do I have right to have cause for concern?
thank you

Hi Barbarag
If you are worrying about the call then contact Pension service and ask if the call was genuine. their contact number is : 0800 731 7898.
We have had a few enquiries on the forum where members have had a call out of the blue. Our advice is never give out your bank details, NI number DOB to a cold call. Always contact DWP to check if they have phoned, if you are contacting DWP after a cold call, make sure that the line is clear before you dial the number.

Thank you so much Gary,
After a sleepless night I realised this morning that the number I put on here was actually my pain management clinic.
After further properly checking my incoming calls I rang another 0800 number and it was confirmed it was genuinely the DWP. In future to avoid unnecessary stress I will politely decline to provide personal information and call back from another phone,

I have had 3 calls from the DWP and turns out two of them work for UC but was out of the blue and just reassuring me they have my claim although want more details from my doctor? My doctor doesn't know me as i moved here in lockdown and i've seen her twice....so not sure what this will achieve?

Hi Samiam72
Even though your Dr does not know you, as you have only recently moved to the area, they will have details of your medical condition from your medical records.
