Prior to lockdown April 2020 I had been referred to a rheumatologist, I had an MRI scan, and diagnosed with Iliotibial band syndrome (left leg), I also have osteoarthritis, carpel tunnel syndrome, basically every joint in my body was affected but manageable with meds from my GP this was only for osteoarthritis, my next appointment with rheumatologist following on from MRI was April 2020, however was cancelled due to lockdown and only had my normal medication from GP, my condition has significantly detreated, my Hands are almost useless, my fingers have became disfigured, bony lumps have appeared on my finger joints, under my knees, and I`m in so much pain totally restricted my life.. I believe because I could not access any treatment from beginning of lockdown it has impacted massively on my condition, and quality of life,. I have had to go back to my GP and start from the beginning again, I`m angry at this. Is there any advice some one has as I basically was just left to get on with it, as Im sure lots opf people have been affected same?

Hello Shelly,

I am sorry to hear about the deterioration in your condition. I am assuming from the title of your post that you are wishing to know if it is possible to have a PIP review. The answer to that is yes, you can always trigger a review by informing the DWP of a change of circumstances. It would be remiss of me not to point out that any review runs the risk of not turning out the way you hoped, and you might end up having to fight to even keep your current award. Have a look at our PIP guide which gives the details of what disabilities score what points, and then can use that information to assess your chances of improving your current award.

If I have got totally the wrong end of the stick with your post, please do come back to us!

Hi Shelley. Although my Rheumatology Outpatients has been shut since April 2020, they are seeing ‘emergency’ cases. I would contact your rheumatology dept directly and explain that you really need some help and appropriate medication. ASAP.

Also.. an aside, mine said they would probably be open again for face to face appointments at my next review (DEC 2021). I did have a telephone appointment in April (the first time I had spoken to anyone in 15 months).
Unfortunately with chronic illness you are pretty much left to it, and it is down to us as individuals to chase everything up. Take care.

sorry I`ve not provided enough info, I was due a (2 year) PIP review in October 2020 which was extended, so I received form filled and returned got text 30th April of receipt, still haven't heard back. I am currently standard daily rate based on results from MRI scan (left leg and knee) iliotibial band syndrome, tear in cartilage, carpel tunnel syndrome (both hands, wrist) and arthritis on top of this, then appointment back at hospital was cancelled due to lockdown and so continued with my meds from GP, I requested another referral. and recently had face to face appointment with SIMS team. What I a concerned about is because of lockdown I couldn't provide any further documentary evidence for my review only that my conditions has considerably deteriorated and i am practically housebound. I dont know how to get help, I have no money to pay for it what am I to do
