GP will not write report for PIP claim was created by Jo
Hi lovely people. I have a bit of a frustrating quandry. I requested a medical report from my GP as advised by various sources that PIP/Universal credit assessors rarely request GP info anymore, presumably to reduce evidence and hence refuse claims.
Multiple GPs and the admin team there insist that they cannot do a report as DWP etc always send them a specific form and request the info themself. I do not believe this is the case but my surgery refuse to believe me and won't do the report as a result (I have offered to pay etc).
I'm really concerned this will lead to my claim being rejected, has anyone else encountered this? I have obtained copied of my GP medical records but am afraid this won't be enough.
Many thanks for reading

Hi Jo
There are quite a large number of GPs who refuse to provide evidence for any types of benefits. They don't want to or refuse to try and understand the benefits system. Although the DWP do sometimes contact GPs (with a specific form) - they only do it for a tiny number of claimants.
The fact is lots of claimants submit their forms without any evidence from their GP. If a claimant has sources of medical evidence - eg consultant's reports or letters - that is generally enough for their claim. If the DWP believe they don't have enough evidence after an assessment - they will write to the GP and ask for it.
Your other option is that you can request your medical notes, (this they cannot refuse to do, but there may be a cost) and you could then send in copies of whatever information you feel is relevant. If you go down this route - do not under any circumstances send in a copy of your notes without reading through them all and taking out irrelevant information or information that could damage your claim.

Hi Jo,
I believe that Gps no longer have to do a letter/report for the DWP, they only have to fill out the form when the DWP sent it to them, ( this is the case at my surgery and of the surgery I used to work at) all you can do is go through your medical/summary record and see which information helps your case.
Good luck

I had this problem a few years ago and was turned down for PIP and at MR because I didn't have any evidence and the DWP didn't request it. I finally convinced my GP surgery that the DWP weren't going to contact them and that my Tribunal date was only 2 weeks away and there was still no medical evidence. I paid £50 for my records, got them sent off just in time and won my Tribunal. 3 years later and it's no surprise that this is still going on.

Hi there Jo. This is where DIY evidence really comes into its own. Even if your GP is super helpful they mostly list off your diagnoses and fail to write about the effects on your Daily Living and Mobility - because largely they don't live in your home and see these.
However you can produce a diary, for which there are templates on here, or make up your own, to demonstrate how you are affected for each applicable descriptor, and on which days. Then it is much harder for them to deny you have such and such a problem eg 5 days out of 7, as all the days are down in your diary. It will likely be quite repetitive, don't worry it is not meant to be interesting but a true record of your life. If necessary someone else can write it for you, calling you every day for the info if they do not live with you .
Hope this helps, it is usually quite effective.

I have been fortunate in the past, my GP has supplied me with supporting letter(s) but points out that it is outside the remit of NHS work and there will be a charge (last one was around £30) but is always taken into consideration by the "Health Professional" as it is always mentioned in copies of my Assessment report along with my other evidence. I cannot understand some GP's, if the Patient is willing to pay a charge for their time I do not see the problem.
