Length of time before initial PIP gives a decision

More

It has been 19 weeks since I first applied for PIP. Apart from the original message to say it was received, I have heard nothing. Is this timescale normal, under the current circumstances of course.

Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to offer me any clarity.

Hi Fiona

I can't really give you clarity, because we are seeing large variations in the waiting times, but yours is certainly on the long side. If you can face it, you can always ring the DWP to find out what the status of your claim is - because if you have to have a telephone assessment then it can be a further 8 weeks after the assessment before you get a decision. There is no harm to your case in asking the question - plenty of people do.

And Fiona while you are at it you could tell them when you do get an assessment you wish to have a recorded one. Save issues changing this later.
Best wishes,
