ESA WCA was created by Augustus
Good Morning
It has been a long time since I had an ESA WCA review. I am on support group ESA and last review was in 2013.
They seem to have put it off regular,ly every two years, and the latest date I was given in 2019 was Oct 2021. I turn pension age next year.
Can you please advise whether the DWP still has issues with existing claimant reviews? I can’t imagine turning pension age next year will make any difference to DWP, but it would be great if they left me alone another year.
Grateful for any feedback.
PS: when an ESA claimant reaches pension age (66 in my case) does ESA automatically stop? Does one have to do anything?
Thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hello Augustus,
The DWP are slowly rolling out face to face assessments whilst continuing to do telephone ones, along with an occasional paper based one. They have a significant back log so I think there is a very high chance that they will not review your ESA again, although no promises.
As you get nearer to State Pension Age you will be sent a claim form which you need to return. Be aware that you may also be able to claim Pension Credit which is a separate claim.

Hello Augustus and anyone else nearing pension age. PLEASE be sure to return the State Pension claim form ASAP. My sister with her mental health issues has caused havoc because she did not. Her Housing Benefit claim has been closed and she has now got to go all through a new one. Not good so best avoided.

I doubt if you will receive any further review for ESA as this will end when you reach retirement age. DWP should notify you automatically as this will be on their computer system and the system should issue an automated letter to this effect. You should be contacted by the Pensions Dept separately in respect of your pension.

Thanks for your post Michelle.
I'm same as Augustus, except I have 2yrs to go prior to State Pension Age 66yrs.
Previously it was pointed out on B&W that DWP doesn't take into account your retirement age, when deciding whether or not to send out a reassessment form.
Forgive me, therefore, for feeling a little confused?
Kindest of regards
