ESA & UC advice needed was created by Hetty2017
Hello , I need advice . I am on old-style ESA contribution support and enhanced PIP for both. My Partner was working until a few days ago- he has suffered with depression for years, plus was dx with cancer in January. He underwent surgery in April and went back to a job that he could do at that time because he was sitting down, sadly when he returned back to work, they changed his job , and he walked out on Monday in agony and in a distraught state, obviously, it was too early to go back to work after radical surgery, but likewise the company never discussed with him how they could help him. Can he claim ESA new style, he also is my carer and I know nothing about UC, we now have rent and council tax to pay, somebody told me that two people can't claim ESA contribution based at the same time on UC? I cannot find any answers and I am so stressed and upset over what has happened with my husband, his job has been mutually terminated, they changed his job, so was finding the pain post-op too much and just walked out Should he claim carers for me, or ESA in his own right, would he be sanctioned for walking out ? even though he's got a long history of depression and now cancer.. please help we are so really struggling and can't speak to anyone in person to get advice.

Hi HelenaC

I'm sorry to hear about the stressful time you and your husband are having, but your questions are beyond the scope of the forum and you need to speak to a specialist benefits adviser. See if you can find someone in your local area from this link advicelocal.uk/ - How to find help locally

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Dear HelenaC, I'm so very sorry to hear of your and your dear husband's awful treatment and ill health. Our daughter got sacked due to ill health and still panics if she sees people from her old job in the street or shop. May I suggest you try calling the MacMillan cancer helpline, it is
0808 808 00 000
8am to 8pm 7 days a week. I found them really helpful when I needed info about my husband's cancer and I know they do offer some advice on money matters. Also they are a good listening ear.
It's also worth looking up the local carers' Association for your area, some are better than others but we had great help with our daughter's ESA form from her local one a while ago. And it sounds like you should both be entitled to a free Carer's Assessment which should point you to all kinds of help, the Carers' Associations often do these.
Hope these assist you in finding help. Meantime if you are struggling to pay bills etc do look for CAP debt help in your area
capuk.org/i-want-help
and whether there is a Credit Union near you. Both safe unlike loan sharks. Kind regards,
Denby
