Hello

A quick question please. I am a registered carer for my brother who has a physical disability. He is going to try and claim pip. I would like to know please could I as his registered carer write a seven day diary and so he could use that with his PIP claim as extra evidence to support his daily living problems.

Would I put my name on the diary pages and say that this has been compiled for my brother then include his name and National insurance number then sign it as his carer?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Waxwing,

A quick question, and an even quicker answer! Yes. (And yes, make sure that you put his name and NI number on each piece of paper you submit.)

A great idea, and I am sure it will support his claim.

Catherine

Hi Waxwing, In addition to Catherine's sound advice, to assure you. I am not even our daughter's care and she lives over 100 miles away. But I still did a very successful diary on her by trying to phone her every day for several weeks. I then went back through my phone noting if she replied or not, or texted etc, and what this indicated. Eg, "no reply, not well enough to answer due to her Chronic fatigue" I put it all in a table with columns for date, time, response, indication.
Hope this encourages you,
Denby

Thank you Catherine and Denby

Both of you have been helpful with your replies and I would like to forward my thanks. This is a reclaim for PIP because his first claim he made 2 years ago failed at appeal because we did not know what we where doing at the time and since then we have understood our errors and we are going to try again with help from a disability welfare group. What I am trying to do is to put together as much evidence incuding anecdotal as we can to support his claim. We have not yet made the claim as we want to take it slowly and steady and to build u a soilid claim. We do not want to have to go through an appeal again so this time we are going to make sure we do it correctly before we make any claims.

Thanks again
