Ask for a award length review only.

Hello

Could I possibly ask a question.

I have been made aware that you can (perhaps) request that the DWP look again at a PIP decision for the length of the award only (my daughter has Autism, Anxiety and Tourettes and was recently awarded enhanced for both mobility and daily living for 3 years, following a review) I obviously agree with this decision and do not want a review her actual award.
She is 18 now and her needs have always been ongoing and are not likely to change. I was not aware you could ask for an ongoing award period, can anyone enlighten me please of the time frames etc to request this, and if it is indeed something you can ask for?
Thank you so much

Kindest Regards

Lisa

Hi LisaG

Nothing stops you from querying the length of the award, I would put it in writing that you agree with the decision but you want to raise a query as to the length of the award as your daughters condition is ongoing and not likely to change.

LisaG, hi I get your frustration regarding her award length, we know she will not improve much if any, but the reason I reckon for her award being only 3 years is down to her age ie 18.

I'd be very surprised if she would get an ongoing award at her age.

In the DWPs eyes there thinking is she will be able to adapt to her condition(s). I've read the regulations on ongoing awards in side out she would be more likely to get one if she was over 57 years old, or nearly retired. I myself is on this but a lot of supportive paperwork proved I will never improve.

There is an element of risk trying to get a longer award and some have been successful in doing so.

Good luck.

I was formely known as (GoingOffMyHeadWithThisGovernment) Won PIP November 2017 ongoing award HR both. Now kept and got my ESA Support group but took a while.

Hello Gary

Thank you very much for your reply, I will draft a letter and ask for a reconsideration of her award length.

Also, just to say thanks for the guides on this site, after using them my daughter's PIP mobility went from standard to enhanced.
There is sbsolutely invaluable advice to be found on this site.
Thank you once again.

Hi again

Just a quick question regarding my post.
When I draft the letter asking for a reconsideration for the length of the award only, I will send a copy of the decision letter but do I also have to send in all the supporting evidence again, or do they simply look at what they already have on file?
(do they even keep anything on file at the DWP?)
Thank you once again

Best wishes

Lisa

I did this recently via an Appeal. I explained I was accepting of the award itself (Enhanced DL, standard Mobility) but was requesting a reconsideration of the award duration.

DWP reviewed all of my award and took my recent ESA assessment into account too.

End result - upgraded Mobility to Enhanced, retained Enhanced DL, 10 year award with light touch review thereafter.

It's always worth asking!!
