Pip review timescale was created by Didt
Apologies if this topic has already been raised regarding time scales of action, if any?
My pip review was due in 2021 and I received a letter from DWP that this would be extended to 2022, as much as I dread this process I contacted the DWP because I consider my condition has deteriorated and much has changed since my last assessment in 2017.
I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s almost 15 years ago and while I appear to be managing well to others I know I’m not.
Anyway that really is by the by for this post.
I contacted the DWP in March for a review assessment, paperwork was received and returned.
I understood that review assessment paperwork should be returned within a month and the call operator said this also.
However I did receive a letter to state it should be returned by June 21st, which interestingly was my initial review date.
So completed form returned at the beginning of May 2021.
I contacted them at the end of June just to confirm it had been received and they reported it had and it was with the assessors, they said they never received it until the 3rd of June.?
Then three weeks ago I had a call to inform me that I would be having a telephone assessment and I would get a letter in the post to give me date and time, but still have not received anything.
I did phone DWP and they apologised and said there was nothing that they could do as it was with the assessors and they were just doing everything in date order and could not tell me if a letter had been sent or anything really.
Am I being too impatient? I realise that there’s a back log it just seems to be dragging out a bit
Thank you

Hi Bridget
You are not being impatient.
We have heard on the forum that there is a backlog, I recently read that there was a backlog of 60,000 2020 claimants.
Unfortunately I cannot give you a time frame but while you are waiting you can have a look at our PIP guide at the link below. You will see that there are 9 pages which include advice on telephone assessments.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants
- Write yourself a bullet point list of any particular points you want to get over, so you have it by you during the assessment, tick them as you cover them during the assessment.
- have paper and pens to hand to make any notes such as the assessors name, date, time
- make sure you are seated in a comfortable chair, you are going to be there a while and at table to make notes
- if you can't hear or understand what is being asked then ask them to repeat the question
- don't forget to have a glass of water if needed so you don't get a dry throat and lose your voice!
Don't forget to contact DWP 48 hours after the assessment and ask for a copy of the assessors report called PA4.

Hi there just to say from the Dwp receiving my review form I waited just under 18 weeks for my telephone assessment and was then advised it would take a further 8 weeks for the decision. It is taking a long time and that does cause such added stress.

Hi Karen, did you request your assessment report? It's an excellent idea unless you really can't cope with risking reading lies etc about yourself. Many call agents will deny you can have it but this is only true in N Ireland, so hang up nicely and try again if you get this. If you get it soon you can write ASAP to 'The Decision Maker' at DWP to put them bang to rights [coldly] over any BS in it. Refer to docs for each thing. It could save you an MR/appeal, it did for our daughter and top award of a rubbish PA4 it's called.
Best wishes,
Denby

Thank you all for your responses much appreciated. So today the letter arrives from Capita for telephone assessment on September 7th. I will indeed read the section, again, on preparing for such assessments in the guide and will ensure everything at hand. Really not relishing the whole thing at all and I am amazed of the impact this whole thing has on your life, I honestly feel it’s on hold until it’s completed. Will let you know how we go.

Hi Bridget
Good luck with your telephone assessment.
If you have a look at our PIP guide at the link below you will see that there are 9 pages which include advice on telephone assessments. Yes, a lot of the questions are those that would have been asked if you had a face to face assessment.
