ESA Exemption from Reassessment was created by Barney Rubble
Has there been any developments since the DWP announced in September 2017 that ESA & UC claimants with the most severe health conditions and disabilities will be exempt from future reassessments. Has this been fully implemented? Has there been any greater definition of the applicable medical conditions and disabilities? What are claimants experiences to date? Has any guidance been issued to health professionals or DWP Decision Makers?
My son's current 3 year ESA Support Group award is due for review in September 2021. He has several lifelong medical conditions and disabilities that will never improve and becomes actively suicidal when these ESA reviews come around. I hope to make a case for him to be exempt from further reassessments. Any advise on what to do and not to do would be appreciated. He has a 10 year PIP award with a light touch review after the 10 years.

Hi Barney Rubble
There was an article in our July news letter: The long awaited health and disability green paper Shaping Future Support was finally released.

Barney, I wish I could tell you some better news regarding this.
I've been following that exemption with interest over the last few years, yes it was implemented by Amber Rudd back in September 2017.
There's a BUT I'm afraid, I've only ever heard and seen a few get into this category? Im on ESA SG & ongoing PIP myself. The DWP no full well I will never improve and I'm not to far of retirement? The mind boggles with what the DWP are up to with this criteria & what group should be exempt from anymore assessments.
As Gary has also pointed out the DWP are supposedly going to exempt claimants in there supposed green disability green paper ?
Yes there's another BUT, I really can't see this really happening, we all know how the DWP persecute claimants?

Hi Gary,
I've read your referenced Newsletter. There is mention of a possible Severe Disability Group for PIP but no mention of something similar for ESA. Can anyone shed light on my queries?

Hi ThisGovernmentsGoneToFar
Thanks for your reply. I thought as much myself as I keep abrest of benefit developments. I'll make a case out again as I did for the last ESA review 3 years ago.
Does anybody know whether the DWP are behind with their ESA reviews?
