I note on my bank statement that my benefit payment gives mt NI number and what benefort it is.
Does this happen to everyone? If so is this not personal data?

Hi Jonniepk,
Whilst I know that NI numbers do appear on bank statements I'm afraid I don't know how this relates to Data Protection issues.

I have been pondering on this question a little and really don't know the answer. I guess the potential issue is that the fact that someone is receiving certain benefits is potentially revealed to bank staff.
Johnniepk, if you wish to explore this further, or have concerns about it, I suggest that you contact the information commissioner's office. I have not had dealings with them recently, but remember them being really helpful. I see they have an online chat facility. If you do explore the issue with them, I will be interested to hear their opinion.
