Hi
Not sure if this is right place to ask but not sure where else to find out the info. On the gov website it says income based ESA recipients are entitled to free dental care. Does this include hygienist appointments? I am not currently registered with an NHS dentist.
Many thanks in advance for any replies.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Lucky,
As far as I am aware free dentistry covers all aspects of dental work required. However you will need to be registered with an NHS dentist which may be difficult to find.
Good luck.

We are now retired and not on any income-related benefits but were for several years. We were told by the dentist that a scale and polish or any work by the Hygienist was classed as private work and not covered. This arose because the dentist forgot we were on benefits and recommended a scale and polish and had to do it himself. To be honest the dentist was not very good at the hygiene work.
I don't know if this is still the case as it was several years ago but please find out for certain before you get a bill.

Hi Lucky,
I'm in receipt of ESA IR and I get my dental work free. Mine is also a NHS dentist.
What I do to prove I am entitled is - rather than take an award letter with me - just take a photo on my phone and show it at reception.
Saves lugging it about or even worse, losing it.
Regards,
Phrank.
