PIP call was created by Pauline
I had my call on Tuesday from PIP. They said the call would be at 10 30am. They rang me at 10.15am. Took me by surprise. I asked the lady if she would record our conversation, explaining that it said on the paperwork they sent me, "at the start of the call if I wish to have it recorded to ask". She replied, you have to tell us that you want the call recorded. I said but I am asking now. She went on to say it had to be prearranged. That is not what it said on the paperwork they sent me.
So rather than allowing it to upset me. I let it go. I used my own recording device. After all the questions, at the end of the call she asked me. Can you put your foot on the bed to put on your socks. This I have to say was a stupid question because I lose balance due to the severity of my brain injury.
I am not sure how long I wait for a decision. But I am very pleased that I recorded the call. My reason for posting this is, regardless of them telling me the call can be recorded by their caller. It never worked out that way for me. I will if need be complain at a later date.

Hi Pauline,
It must be a relief to get the assessment over with. My understanding of asking for a recording is that it has to be requested in advance. I haven't seen a DWP letter about this, so it is entirely possible that once again DWP aren't clear!
Give it a couple of days and phone DWP for a copy of the report, PA4. If you feel the report is very inaccurate you could contact DWP to complain about the report. You would need to do this urgently before the decision is made. Make it clear you are only complaining about the report and not wanting to do Mandatory Reconsideration at this stage.
Keep your own recording safe and make a back up copy!
Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. I did not know that I can ask for a copy. I will do that.
If it said on their paperwork to arrange a recording before the call, I would have. But it clearly says ask the caller on the day of the call if you wish it to be recorded.
Still, I have a copy and I am so glad that I did record it. When they rang 15 minutes before the arranged time, it through me for a moment because I never expected them to do that.
Thanks again
Pauline

just like to say the assessors are a bunch of you know what, because at a face to face always make you wait uo tp an hour or more, and always tell you to turn up 10mins early.

Well done for staying calm enough to do your recording when they did that to you Pauline! As LL26 says, for goodness sake make a backup copy. Use that if you need to transcribe [write out] any of it, as the constant stopping and starting you have to do while you type a few words over and over can mess up the recording, so keep the original good.
I feel personally that putting in the letter as they did, and then letting an assessor choose to over-rule this, is one more example of the profit-making assessment companies disrespecting claimants rights and dignity, whether intentionally or by carelessness. I daresay if you had not 'let it go', you might have been reported for not going through with it. One of the websites says;
Will IAS record your consultation?
IAS will not automatically record your telephone consultation.
And the capita-pip.co.uk site says this
Can i record my assessment?
If you would like your telephone assessment to be recorded, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can arrange this for you.
So that letter is really naughty, why would anyone trawl the website if they get a letter that appears totally clear? MODS, please might back office follow this up?
If you want your telephone consultation recorded, you must request this by contacting our Customer Services team before your appointment. They will arrange a new appointment for you and the recording will be shared with you.
I think it is wrong that the two contractors are not made to use standard identical wording as this makes it a postcode lottery about what you are told!
[MODS, please maybe another at least campaign point?]
Best wishes to you,
Denby

Hi denby,
I will pass on your message to the back office.
I am encouraged because it looks as if Northern Ireland has got the recording issue sussed. We have had two members from there recently report that at the start of the assessment they are given the option for it to be recorded or not. Lets hope that crosses over to this side of the Irish Sea soon.
