Future dated attendance allowance was created by Johnniepk
I claimed Aa for 81 year old person who had had a brain aneurysm on 26th June. Although this made her problems worse she has been strughling with bodily functions for over a year. All this info went on the form
The good news is thatcshe has been awarded the higher rate. The bad is it says from 27th December 2021.
6 months from the date of aneurysm.
Is this normal? Advance notice of entitlement or a possinle error?
I shall do a mr this weekend but wondered if this is unusual.

Hello Johnniepk,
I have never heard of an award starting sometime in the future. There is exactly 6 months between the two dates you have given, are you sure that they have not back dated the award to 27th December 2020? Before you start on the MR route I would advise ringing the DWP and see what is happening. You need to know what you are fighting anyway, and you just might be able to resolve the issue there and then.
Well done for helping out your friend

Attendance Allowance requires the claimant to have been suffering from the effects of their condition(s) for six months before an award can be made.
It sounds as if the Decision has been made solely on the basis of the aneurysm, hence the award from December 2021.
Any MR will need to concentrate on any other issues that the person had prior to the event happening.
AA Medium Rate care is awarded for problems during the day or the night and the Higher rate for issues day and night, the degree of disability will not affect which award is made if the claimant does not need help during both periods, so it is possible that a lower award will be made until December.

Thanks for the reply.
Nope 100% dated December 2021
It reads
What you are entitled to
From 21/12/2021 to 30/07/2023 you are entitled to:
Does seem bizarre.

Hi Johnniepk,
Gordon’s suggestion sounds good to me, both as an explanation of the December date and how to approach a MR.

still bemused. Surely they would just ask her to resubmit after 6 months?
There has been no other notification re June to December.
I am posting whilst on phone being told how busy the service advisors are every minute or so.
