Joint esa claim, partner going to university help! was created by Vixie
Hi my partner and I live together and have an 8 year old child.
I get contribution based esa (support group) and pip. He gets income related esa (support group) and pip. We have a joint tenancy and housing benefit etc.
He is starting an MA in a few weeks, or at least he's hoping to.
So many questions and problems!
Due to the distance to the University he wants to move closer on his own.
He will be getting a £10,000 student loan over 2 years.
The stress is making me even more ill than I already am.
I can't see how he can do it, as he has nowhere to live yet, but that's another story.
What I desperately want to find out is how is all this going to affect our benefits. I can't get any help from anywhere, I can't ever get through to speak to anyone. He's had advice that he can get housing benefit for student accommodation, but that's proving difficult to actually follow up.
But that aside, I'm pretty sure if we try to separate purr joint esa claim we will be moved to universal credit, which noone wants. I just feel like I'm falling down a big hole.
I don't know whether our relationship will survive him moving away anyway, inhich case we will have to seperate our claims and move to universal credit anyway. Sorry this isn't making alot of sense I just don't know whete to even start.
Thank you for any advice

Hi Vixie
I'm sorry about all the stress you are experiencing, but I am going to add to it, because your questions are outside of the scope of the forum and you need to speak to a specialist benefits adviser.
See if you can find one in your local area here:
