However, if you are seen to be deliberately spending capital this might cause DWP to question your spending under the "deprivation of capital' rules. If you have essential repairs and furniture purchases to make then these can be paid for. The important thing is to get proper quotes for the repair and keep all receipts. It may be worthwhile to contact DWP and tell them, otherwise there could be awkward questions later.
