Discretionary housing payment was created by Francesca
I wanted to ask if PIP is taken into account when applying for the discretionary housing help.
All I've found so far is that it shouldn't be but is.

I've lived in my current house since 1992 but my youngest son left in about 2002 for uni and work and my eldest son has just moved into supported accomodation. So although I managed the one spare bedroom tax I will now have two spare
And with my mental health condition I can't cope with the possibility of having to move out of my home.

Hi Francesca

Whenever I complete a DHP form I will always disclose if the claimant is in receipt of PIP but then make sure that in the expenditure we use the PIP income to cover extra disability expenditure as that is what the disability payments are for.

If you are two rooms under occupied then you will loose 25% of your HB or HE if on UC.
Are you in receipt of IR ESA, if you are then you maybe able to claim SDP now your son has moved into supported accommodation.

You should seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation to check you are getting all your benefit entitlements. You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Thank you for your help. So they won't include the pip as income?
I'm on UC in the LCWRA group.

Hi Francesca

They do include PIP as income, you have to show that due to your disabilities your PIP is used for this purpose, such as paying for a gardener or cleaner.
