ESA was created by O P
I am currently on PIP and am applying for ESA contribution based. I was just wondering does PIP effect ESA or vice versa.

Hi OP,
PIP is not a means tested benefit, it is awarded because the claimant has disabilities which preclude doing the various PIP descriptor activities. It will not affect your claim for ESA cb. It will not affect a claim for means tested ESA or the equivalent under UC. Likewise ESA will not affect PIP, or the amount of money you can get.
Having an award of PIP can provide an upgrade (premium) on the amount of means tested ESA depending on the PIP award This will NOT however apply to ESAcb where premiums are not payable.

Several of the ESA descriptors are very similar to some of the PIP ones. So, whilst receipt of neither benefit affects the ability to claim the other, there is a cross-over in terms of evidence. You might therefore be able to quote from PIP decisions or assessment reports to support your ESA claim or use the same medical report you sent in previously. That said, DWP are remarkably quick to deny that positive correlations exist between the two benefits, even despite caselaw. However if for whatever reason a PIP review comes back with zero points, then it is likely ESA may get reviewed too.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your claim please have a look at the members guides if you haven't done so already- there is lots of helpful info on ESA claims.

Hi O P

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I have a query with your post, you say that you are applying for CB ESA, do you mean that you are applying for New Style ESA? as I believe you can no longer apply for CB ESA as a new claimant.

PIP does not affect either legacy CB ESA or NS ESA.
