ESA not reviewed since 2018, possible consequence?

Back in 2017, I applied for ESA and received a 1-year award following a mandatory reconsideration in 2018. Because I had to go via MR, I ended up on UC in the limited capability for work group. I have attended all my meetings (in person and now my phone) and in 2018, I queried with my work coach as to when and how I would here about my review. She told me not to stress about it that because of a backlog, I probably wouldn't hear anything for a while and just wait until I heard from them. So, I forgot about it.

A few days ago, the lady reviewing my mandatory reconsideration for my PIP renewal, called me with some questions and at the end, she asked me when I had my last ESA review. And it's clear she's picked up on the fact that I've had no review since 2018.

I didn't expect DWP to forget about me forever but also I didn't really compute how long it's been since I've had a review. And now I'm somewhat worried that because I didn't contact them, there's some consequence/punishment I might face so having left my review go for so long.

Is there?

Hi applecharlie

It is up to the ESA department to inform you of a review,. It is not down to the claimants. Generally, ESA is reviewed every, 1, 2 or 3 years. However, there are plenty of people because of the backlog have found they haven't been reviewed for much longer. There are no sanctions because it's nothing to do with the claimants.

Thank you so much. I needed that peace of mind.

I'm really praying for a good outcome with my PIP. The lady seemed nice but who knows that could have been to lull me into a false sense of security.

I can reasonable assume that now someone at DWP has picked up on my lack of review that that headache is coming. Let's hope I only have to deal with that and not a tribunal for PIP.
