Reports and letters was created by gillybee
Hi All - I've just received my sons review form for PIP. In it it says you can send a 'report' from a GP but not a supporting letter. Can anyone please tell me the difference? Can I not ask his GP to write a 'report' on his ASD problems rather than a letter?

Really appreciate any pointers thank you.

Hello gillybee,

I always advise people to include as much evidence as they can, regardless of whether it is a first application or a review. I am sure there is a technical difference between a report and a letter, but I very much doubt whether a busy GP is going to think about which is which, particularly if he/she gets the message second hand from the receptionist! I would suggest that you simply ask for the GP for a supporting letter detailing your son's conditions - which sounds pretty much like a report to me :P

Gillybee, in short stuff the 'don'ts.' A cynic [who, me???] might say they are there to reduce the amount of evidence submitted in favour of the claimant. If it is relevant whatever it is, you will make this clear in the reference you make to it as you complete the form. Having a son with ASD is quite enough to deal with without worrying about making DWP's life 'easier' -they don't do it for you do they?
best wishes, Denby

Thank you so much for the pointers. I'm already, as usual, soaked with anxiety, don't want to deal with this again but realise that it is all aimed at making life hard for us. As a 24hr a day carer of over 25 years this just gets more anxiety provoking every time. Thank you though for your comments.

Hello gillybee,

As I read your last post I thought I should add an encouragement to you to take control of what you submit to them. It is yours/your son's application and you have the right to include whatever you wish.
