pip award seems to say 10 year award! CAN THIS BE RIGHT?? retirement pip ? was created by Bunny1
Hi there , much to my amazement/relief- after long pip review process that made me really ill- i got decision letter- I was awarded PIP without having to do MR! - ENHANCED daily living STANDARD mobility. in assessors decision notes it states ' i hv decided to award you pip for a longer time' ( don't know if this is standard language -its my first review) & on 2nd page it says ' we will contact you while you are on pip to see if yr needs hv changed etc THIS WILL BE AFTER FEBRUARY ( My birthday date) 2033!! that's 10 YEARS!! last time i was awarded 18 months! ( postponed due to covid) just want to check - A- CAN THIS BE RIGHT?? ( ive read some conditions that will not change ( & mine wont) are being awarded longer periods of award - but tho i hv physical health issues that affect me badly - the main is anxiety agoraphobia depression & PTSD. mental health team wrote my PTSD cannot be treated due to lack of support system so i will always hv it - but just want to check can this 10 year award be right? has this happened to other people- ( im too scared to call them)! & B- I RETIRE IN 5 YEARS . what happens when i retire?? can i still get my pip when i retire? what happens to it? i will b very poor when i retire so will really need it but don't know how it works when i retire.? do i still get pip or does it stop or change?? any advice/knowledge /experiences welcome. many thanks x

Hi Bunny1
Try to stop worrying. Yes, you can be given an award for 10 years, and this will take you through your retirement and beyond. Yes, you can still have PIP if it was awarded before the state retirement age (which yours has been). You have it in writing - which is great! The one thing you will not be able to do after state retirement age is put in for a change of circumstances if need be for your mobility. Mobility awards cannot be upgraded after the state retirement milestone.

OMG that's WONDERFUL!! THANKS SO MUCH! I wasn't sure if pip stops when you retire! it will make a huge difference! Altho i totally told the truth in my form & additional info- it soo difficult to get - yet alone for such a long time- i think i must hv been lucky to get a sympathetic assessor. last time i had to do MR .now i can relax a bit until next ESA review!! FINAL QUESTION - i read they r making folk move from old style sick benefit to Universal Credit in coming years- is this true? & if so - will this affect me?? be applicable to me? im 62. many thanks x

Hi Bunny1
I can't answer your question about ESA and Universal credit because no one knows. The government said they weren't likely to act before 2028, which, if you reach retirement age that year, your ESA would be stopping anyway. However, we may have a change of government before then, and everything could change. I would really try not to worry about it.
