PIP Should I challenge duration of award? was created by Sugarfoot
Hello. Firstly, many thanks to B&W site, I was awarded PIP after 2 very stressful reviews. The PIP guides were invaluable.
I’m thinking about challenging the period of the award partly because the DA report states that “Appears to have restrictions as a result of her [conditions]. Considering there is no changes in treatment planned at present, a change in function in short term appears unlikely. Therefore a 4 year review appears appropriate”
She also wrote:
“It is likely that the functional restriction identified in this report will be present at the recommended point of review: Yes (ticked)”
The claimant has a mental, intellectual or cognitive impairment and may need additional support to comply with future claim processes. Yes (ticked)”
Could an MR request cause more problems? Or is it just worth a shot?. Otherwise I’m happy with the actual award but the thought of going through this again just makes me feel sick. Thank you

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Sugarfoot
Congratulations on your award. We're glad to hear that you found the guides so useful.
Award lengths have become much shorter. If you have a four-year award you will receive a review form sometime after three years.
The assessor seems to be applying that in the future you may require more support - but that isn't clear yet - hence the length of the award.
Some members of B&W have successfully challenged the length of their award, but it is rare for people to be successful. If you decide to do so, make sure that you say that you are satisfied with your award and you are only challenging the award length.
