Re: I’ll health retirement query was created by Souter
Hi, I have been sick for 6 months on full pay. I was told on the 13 June I would no longer receive SSP. I immediately applied for new style ESA. Today I was paid off via ill health, I do not have a private pension only state pension. My official retirement date is 9 November 2023 ,
My question is should I now claim UC , I have no savings. I receive PIP now called Scotland disability ( I think) The ESA form didn’t ask if I needed help with council tax . I pay an interest only mortgage which is £ 844 per month. I’m sure I will receive no help with this and my council tax is £ 189 per month. Both benefits confuse me,
I sm always so grateful for your advice and taking the time to help.
Kind Regards
Teresa

Hi Souter

I am a bit confused with your post, as you state that you applied for new style ESA today and that you have a state pension. You cannot apply for NS ESA if you are state pension age.

I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk they will be able to advise you as to what benefits you can claim such as Attendance Allowance if you are not already in receipt of PIP/DLA, you may also be eligible to claim Pension Credits.

Sorry, my retirement date is 9 nov this year. I have been off work sick for 6 months getting full pay until 12 June when they said they would be paying no more SSP and on the 27 July I have been paid off through I’ll health, I am not in a private pension only a state pension. I applied for the new style ESA online . I received a letter today that I need to take part in a telephone interview. This is all new to me having worked since I was 18. I also receive enhanced rate of PIP . Could you help me out and give me an idea of what questions they will ask. I know this is a long post and I appreciate your time . I notice people apply for ESA an UC.
Once again thanks for your help

Souter

Have you actually been given a date for an assessment? Our ESA/UC Claim guide has a list of the questions you will be asked if you have.

As to UC, I echo Gary's suggestion that you get advice.
