Are the over 60's now being targetted for WCA/UC reviews ? was created by routemaster
Are people over 60 who're long term recipients of ESA and in the Support Group now being targetted for WCA reviews ? I've read a number of posts here which suggest it is and i've seen a post on Rightsnet which asks the same question.
What can the DWP possibly hope to achieve by harassing people who're close to retirement age ?. Especially since most will have been given a prognosis in previous assessments that a return to work is unlikely. Or should we assume that we're now witnessing another example of DWP cruelty which is likely to cause older claimants a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety which in turn may make their health even worse.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Ben
We've had four or five members a year out from state pension age who have recently received a form. Is that small number indicative of a deliberate policy to suddenly reassess those close to retirement age? It's impossible to know. The DWP has admitted to having a backlog of reassessments for ESA - so it could just be part of the process to address this, and there may be ESA claimants of all ages who are suddenly finding a form being delivered after a long period of time. It may be nothing to do with a claimant's age but the length of time since they were last assessed.
At the end of the day, we probably won't ever know. Receiving a review form is distressing for the majority of claimants, regardless of age.
