Independent Assessment service for PIP

I thought that the decision-maker looked at reviews and only sent them for assessment if they ( the decision-maker maker couldn't do it straight away themselves. We got the last review about 2017 back within a week no assessment required.

Does this not happen anymore? Also does this new INdependent assessment service cover all of England or just some areas?

I am beginning to panic now as my partner is very unstable and we have no transport.

Hi jll2009, I'm not a mod but have gleaned from here that a] the vast majority of assessments are now done over the phone and b] even if given a face to face appointment you can request to have it changed to another type eg phone.
Hope this gives you a bit of calm about having no transport,
Denby

Hi j112009

The system hasn't changed. When you say there was no assessment required in 2017 - it just means they did a paper-based assessment. This still happens sometimes. Less than 20% of assessments are paper-based.

PIP assessments are carried out by IAS - Independent Assessment Services (formerly ATOS) or Capita. You can see on their websites which areas they cover.

www.capita-pip.co.uk/en/assessment-centres

Most assessments now are on the telephone.

This is a review, not a new claim. does the 20% paper-based figure apply to reviews as well?

Hi j112009

As far as I am aware, the 20% is new claimants, I am not aware of any figures for reviews.
