Hey guys,
So I am getting round to applying PIP for my mother after many years.
She currently works with NHS as an admin and she's worried this will have her claim denied.
Her medical issues include body pains especially in the arms and hands and mental health and anxiety.
We're worried it'll be denied as they'll say how is she capable to work in this instance..
Whats the go around this ?

There are people who work and are awarded PIP. (I don't have the numbers). It can be challenging to convince an assessor that a claimant who works may still need extra support for their daily living and/or mobility. Take for instance you state your mother has mental health issues and anxiety. She will need to show how they impact on her ability to work. Does work make any reasonable adjustments for her? Has she been off sick more? Does she struggle to communicate with people? Does she struggle to fulfil her duties because of the pain she is in? Does she make more mistakes than her colleagues? is she slower in processing things? Does she struggle to move around her workplace? etc etc She doesn't have to put any of what I've written here onto her application -(though you might want to put it under the part that says Is there anything else we need to know), but I can guarantee that they are the sorts of questions an assessor will ask during an assessment, and she needs to have ready answers.
Have a good look at the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews for suggestions on how to answer each of the questions.

Is it required by law that they are informed of occupation? If not, how do they find out about work?

Claimants are supposed to tell the truth on their form - so if a claimant is working and they don't mention it - they are not giving an accurate picture of the difficulties they experience when applying for daily care/and or mobility. This would be potentially fraudulent. The PIP form doesn't specifically ask about work - the DWP has links to all sorts of other areas like the tax office so it is not difficult for them to find out that someone works.

I see, so do you recommend mentioning work within the application? Also which sections would be appropriate to mention work difficulties?

Please note I'm a forum member not a moderator. However I do work for the NHS.
It should be easy to get a referral to Occupational Health for advice on reasonable adjustments. This might provide useful evidence for a PIP application. Occupational Health assisted with my working from home, productivity adjustments and breaks.
I also received assistance with equipment from the Health and Safety department who did a workstation assessment. Workplaces are obliged to provide suitable equipment (see Health and Safety Executive website for legal provisions).
When I was had issues with the equipment I required I contacted the DWP department 'Access to Work' who sent someone to assess me. I received more specialist equipment and taxis to work. This again would provide evidence as they write a report.
If your mother works for a larger NHS workplace. There might be a disability/long term condition group who can offer further information on what is provided for staff. My Trust has a disability and long term condition policy which provides useful information.
