Fit Note - First UC Claim was created by Kaitlin399
Hi
Daughter is 19 1/2 and has never been fit for work. Significant MH problems that affect her whole life. She was unable to access her education and now she is unable to access work. It is fully documented by health professionals.
Consequently she has never needed a Fit Note before.
Is there anything I need to know about Fit Note situation for the UC process?
Will she still have to wait the 3 months until the work assessment even though she has been unfit to work since she was eligible to make a claim but didn't.
For info -
I am her carer. We have been delayed applying for her UC claim because of my own health problems.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

There's nothing special about a Fit Note, providing the GP is prepared to sign one then she just presents it via her UC journal. She will need to maintain a FN throughout her UC claim until a Decision is made on whether she has Limited Capability for Work, the first two notes cannot be for periods longer than three months.
I'm afraid if she has not made a claim then the DWP cannot take into account any period before she actually does.
She should receive a UC50 to complete some four weeks after the Fit Note is submitted as to an assessment, the DWP are prioritising new claims but it is likely to be months, possibly many months before she gets an appointment.
